Girls Robots Dragons is a premium quality NFT collection with high-tech gamification that has taken the Web 3 industry by storm. The main attraction is the expert level of digital artistry employed in drawing each card character. The collection has 15 characters in total (five girls, five robots, and five dragons).

The premium character artwork has attracted a lot of people to the GRD project. The success of the NFT sale and credit for these spectacular drawings goes to the Hungarian artist duo — Gabor Szikszai and Zoltan Boros.

Both Zoltan and Szikszai have made a lasting impact on the digital art industry. Their collaboration, which lasted 25 years (1986–2010), will not be forgotten. During their collaboration, they made cover art for over one hundred science fiction and fantasy-themed books in Europe. In addition, they won several highly rated awards both in Europe and the United States.

The duo also made significant contributions to popular games like Star Wars RPG, Magic: The Gathering TCG, and Hearthstone, among many others. The latest of these projects is the sci-fi and fantasy NFT collection game: Girls Robots Dragons (GRD). This game is their first public project together after both artists decided to separate in 2010.

Where It All Started

Gabor Szikszai — Illustrator, Graphic Designer, Art Director in the Game Industry

Gabor Szikszai is a science fiction artist and one of the two people responsible for the spectacular Girls, Robots, Dragons art. In a recent interview, Gabor gave insight into his early life and how his love for sci-fi animation was born.

Growing up in Hungary, there wasn’t much exposure to sci-fi or fantasy. So Szikszai’s fancy was tickled when he saw the animation Space 1999 and a few others, like Adventures of Captain Pirx. The graphics from these animations struck him, and he rapidly developed an interest in design and everything related to it. His newfound love for design led him into the world of sci-fi.

Szikszai had always been a brilliant and stellar student from a young age. This continued into high school. Szikszai and Zoltan crossed paths in high school, and Szikszai met his match for the first time. Instead of rivalry, both men developed a deep friendship and professional relationship.

Szikszai mentioned that it requires hard work to become a world-renowned artist — or anything at all. But, according to him, the recipe for success is simple; 70% hard work, 20% talent, and 10% luck.

The Effect of the Evolution of Technology on Graphic Design

Technology is constantly evolving and changing the way we do things. As a result, artificial intelligence (AI) is slowly taking over a lot of vital roles, and graphic design is not left out.

AI drawings are popular in the design space now as more and more people are drawn to them over manual drawings. Unfortunately, this situation is affecting several manual artists, one of which is Szikszai.

Although Szikszai is not happy with the fact that AI seems to be taking the place of traditional drawing, he believes both can complement each other.

While acknowledging that AI has endless possibilities, Szikszai is sure, however, that there will always be a place for the conventional way of drawing.

Szikszai’s Biggest Inspiration

Szikszai first started drawing in kindergarten at about three and a half years old. His inspiration came from different sources, like Alien, Star Wars and the 2001 Space Odyssey.

Back in the 80s, Jim Burns, Peter Elson, Naoyuki Kato, and other artists also played vital roles in inspiring him. He bought many of their albums just to study and learn from them.

However, Szikszai considers his friend, Zoltan Boros, whom he fondly calls Zoli, his most significant source of inspiration.

Szikszai’s Message to the Sci-fi Lovers in the GRD Community

At the end of the interview, Szikszai dropped a few words for young sci-fi lovers. He said that every sci-fi story or game connects somehow to our inner child.

To him, many tend to visit the past with fantasy and with sci-fi, and many imagine a great future from the present. However, he personally believes sci-fi is more optimistic and relatable.

He believes science fiction is a source of hope and inspiration that can change our world for the better. His overall message to youngsters and GRD holders is that there is hope for our world and the future.

Szikszai also did not forget to leave a message for GRD collectors. The message is simple; keep collecting, we love you.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that Zoltan and Szikszai have made tremendous contributions to the world of digital artistry. This fact is proven by the success of their previous projects and even the latest one, Girls Robots Dragons.
